Candidates’ Night Thursday, Send Us Your Questions Now

MyVeronaNJ-Election-WinnersThis Thursday, April 18, MyVeronaNJ.com and the Verona Observer newspaper will hold a forum for the seven candidates running for the Verona Town Council election.

Candidates will make opening and closing statements, but will spend the bulk of the evening responding to questions that have been submitted by readers in advance: There will be no questions taken from the audience during the event. If you have a question you need to have answered to cast your ballot, submit it in the comments field below.

Three seats are up for a vote this year. Bob Manley,Kevin Ryan and Jay Sniatkowski are seeking re-election. They are being challenged by Al DeOldAlex RomanTeena Schwartz and Rich Williamson.

The event will be held at Congregation Beth Ahm, 56 Grove Avenue, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday night, April 18. There is ample street parking around the synagogue.

The election is Tuesday, May 14.

  1. Now that the Hilltop fields ordinance has been passed, please tell me how you plan to regulate the spending of that money over the course of the construction and are you in favor of the proposed sub committee to over see the project?

  2. Being that our two contracts are up for negotiation this year I would like to know each candidate’s position on how they would like to see this contract different from previous ones. I know they can’t get into specifics but I think generalities would be helpful as well (ie larger share of health costs, lower raises,etc).

  3. The council is by law supposed to be directing the town manager on policies and funding. But two of our incumbents have long simply deferred to Manager Martin’s direction. In one meeting two years ago Bob Manley honestly confessed this was because he has no knowledge or expertise about funding. Why then are we asked to re-elect him and Jay Sniatkowski?
