MyVeronaNJ-Hilltop-MulchTwilight Hike At Hilltop: Want to walk off those Family Night dinner calories. Come to the Courter Lane parking area off Mountain Avenue in North Caldwell, shortly before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, and join the Hilltop Conservancy and the Essex County Environmental Center for a twilight hike in the Hilltop Reservation.

From 7 to 8:30 p.m., you can join naturalists for an evening discovery walk in search of spring peepers and wood frogs, and perhaps see, the Conservancy says, “the secretive strange springtime mating flight of the Timberdoodle.” Yes, that is a real bird; it is also known as the American woodcock. It’s still March and you’ll be on a mountain, so the Conservancy is advising participants to dress warmly and wear sturdy shoes or mud boots.
