The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for snow in our area, in effect from 6 p.m. tonight through 6 p.m. Thursday.

The weather watchers now expect snow across northeastern New Jersey, as well as in New York City, the southern Hudson Valley, Long Island and Connecticut.

Snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected Wednesday night through Thursday, and an additional 1 to 3 inches is possible Thursday night and Friday.

The storm will also come with winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 40 mph or more along the coasts.

A mix of rain and snow is expected to develop this morning before changing over to all snow late this afternoon. Accumulating snow on roadways could lead to difficult traveling conditions Wednesday night through Thursday. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities.

The heavy wet snow, combined with strong winds could lead to downed tree branches and power lines.
