Verona’s teachers have been working without a contract since last June and talking to the Board of Education about a new one. Ditto Montclair. Now comes word that teacher contract talks in Montclair have broken down.
According to Barista Kids, the Montclair BOE has filed a “Notice of Impasse” with regard to the Montclair Education Association. The BOE is offering salary increases of 2.8%, 2.6% and 2.4% over the three years of the contract. The MEA wants 3%, 2.9%, and 2.8%. The BOE is also offering to pay teachers more to teach larger classes.
