It might not have felt that way to many of us in Verona, but we are actually wealthier now than we were in 2009. According to some data crunching by NJSpotlight.com, the median household income in Verona rose from $91,818 in 2009 to $97,017 in 2011, a gain of 5.7%.
The news Web site looked at the U.S. Census Bureau’s five-year American Community Surveys and did some averaging. So the 2009 number is actually an average of data from 2005 to 2009.
We fared better than Montclair, where the median household income rose 2.4%, but not as well as Roseland, where the gain was 10.4%. A wide swath of south Jersey saw their median household income fall during the period.
