VHS To Present ‘Putnam County Spelling Bee’

Putnam-Spelling1Verona High School’s Spotlight Players will present The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee on March 7, 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the VHS auditorium.

The show, which opened on Broadway in 2005, is a musical comedy about a fictional spelling bee set in the fictitious Putnam Valley Middle School. It’s a mix of quirky contestants, quirky judges and quirky spelling words, plus a Greek-style chorus in the form of the fictitious Putnam County Board of Education.

The production is directed by Fran Young with musical direction by Marsha Schreier. Melody Williams returns as choreographer along with Tom Williams as Technical Director and producer Dana Ahmuty.

The cast includes Michael Hardenberg, Gabi Latimer, Alex Karpinski, Ned Denton, Austin Williams, Maddie Meyer, Kelsey Mitchell, Jill Lanese, Gabe Riccitelli, Sophia Park, Noelle Park, Maura Cuddihy, Tabitha Chasse, Maddie Boyle, Katie Kast, Chelsi Napoli, Jessica Karpinski, Alex Fiedler, Carina Mitchell, Anthony Giuliano and Rayna Newkirk.

Tickets can be purchased at the door and they are $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens. For more information, e-mail the director.

  1. Great opening night – laughter from beginning to end. Two more shows – Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. Come support these talented and hard-working Verona High School students … and have a enjoyable evening at the same time!
