More than any other color, red is associated with a multitude of emotions and characteristics.  It is much more than the color of a rose or a Valentine’s greeting. Red represents passion, joy, good fortune, prosperity, romanticism, desire and emotion.

It is said that using red in your interior environment can give you energy, motivation and increased enthusiasm about the world around you. It is also said that red stimulates one’s appetite and therefore is used in many dining rooms and restaurants.

If red is a color that you love there are many easy ways to use it in your home.  Too much of this powerful color can be overstimulating, so my suggestion is to use it in small doses. Pairing the right red with neutral surroundings is a fantastic way to bring red and its emotional energy into your world.

The most outwardly visible way to incorporate red into your home environment is to paint your front door a fabulous high gloss red– sending a message to the world that your home is full of energy, love and enthusiasm.  Another great way to use red is by creating an accent wall in your dining room, kitchen, or in your front entry.  A sideboard table or an end table painted in either red lacquer or a rustic antique red is always a beautiful accent piece in a room. If you are not interested in painting, accessorize. Throw a red pillow on your neutral sofa, or a lovely grouping of red vases on your mantle.

As a color consultant, I strongly believe that color has the ability to transform your home and how you feel while you are living it. Why not try a color with such powerful influence? Whatever you do, have fun with it, and enjoy the power that red can bring into your life.
