Change on the Verona food front: Maria Carrozza has closed the retail portion of Mardi Gras Fine Foods and is moving its catering operations to a new location.
Carrozza says the move reflects the nature of her business now, which is largely driven by parties and not individual lunches and dinners. “Most of the business is catering,” she says. Customers will still be able to reach the business through its Web site and by e-mail. The phone number for Mardi Gras will continue to be 973-857-3777.
Carrozza bought Mardi Gras in 2007 with her brother, Antonio Carrozza and sister Angela Gillespie after the catering and takeout shop’s founders retired. (Barbi Ellen Newman re-entered the food business this week with Reds Dips & Flips, a Chicago-style beef sandwich shop in West Caldwell.) Carrozza and her team added grilled items to the original French favorites and expanded Mardi Gras’ menu to include Cajun, Tex-Mex and Mexican dishes.
