West Side Story: VHS Girls Win

Share post:

The Verona High School girls basketball team dominated yesterday’s game against Newark’s West Side High School from the opening whistle, piling up a lopsided 59-17 victory.

Scoring 25 points, Amanda Langan put up almost half of the VHS total. She also pulled down 11 rebounds. Junior Brielle Cummings scored 13 points, while Claire Fitzpatrick and Julie Rosenberg each contributed seven. Rosenberg also had six rebounds. Tamara Ortiz was the top scorer for West Side.

Langan is now just 16 points away from 1,000 and will be the first VHS girl to reach that mark since 1995. It is likely that she will hit the magic number at Saturday’s game against Cedar Grove, which will be home at 10:30 a.m.
