Matt Braschi put up as many points as Joe Slattery, the lead scorer for Cedar Grove, but his 17-point game wasn’t enough to make the game Verona’s. Playing at home Saturday morning, the Verona High School boys fell 46 to 33, dropping their record to four and two. Alex Kaslander and Frank Ferrari each contributed six points to the efforts, and Kaslander was the game’s leading rebounder, with eight.

The boys face Weequahic High School in Newark on Monday at 4 p.m.

The Verona High School girls basketball team traveled to Livingston High School, but wound up with a defeat that nearly mirrored the boys’, 45-36. The lady Hillbillies owned the first half of the game, with a 22-14 lead at the buzzer. Senior Amanda Langan added 14 more points to her total, but was shut out in the second half. Julie Rosenberg, a junior, had 11 points on the day.

The girls take on West Side High School at home on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
