The Human Needs Food Pantry is getting a new chief, who is, literally, a chief. Or at least was one.

According to the Cliffview Pilot, Michael Bruno, the retiring police chief of Tenafly, will become the executive director of Human Needs in March. The Montclair-based food pantry, which both serves Verona and gets substantial food donations from our town, had been headed for the last 25 years by Deanna London.

The Cliffview Pilot says that Bruno has a background in volunteerism as well as police work:

“Over the years I have done volunteer work when time allowed, doing walk-in dinners for the homeless, and have participated in outreach programs,” Bruno told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “This is a perfect fit for me.

“I jumped at the opportunity.”

Baristanet also reported the new position.
