Move over Glee: The Paper Mill Playhouse is holding auditions for a Broadway show choir.
The choir is open to students ages 16 to 22 and auditions will be held at the Paper Mill on Wednesday, February 6, at 8:30 p.m.  The choir, which is tuition-free, will consist of 18 to 24 singers and dancers.
Students selected to be a part of the choir will have to opportunity to fine tune their craft with free, intensive instruction at the Paper Mill. The Paper Mill Playhouse Broadway Show Choir will run two seasons each year with an average, five- to six-month commitment each season. The culmination of this show choir season will be a performance on the Paper Mill Playhouse stage to open the 2013 Rising Star Awards in front of an audience of 1,200. Rehearsals will take place on Sunday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m. Performance schedules will vary. Show choir staff is willing to consider school and vacation schedules.
The Paper Mill Playhouse Broadway Show Choir will be led by a professional staff of artists including; Shayne Austin Miller (Director), Meg Zervoulis (Music Director), Jennifer Forziati-Dacosta (Choreographer), Lisa Cooney (Paper Mill Playhouse Director of Education), Mickey McNany (Paper Mill Playhouse Theatre School Director) and Carrie Rubino (Associate Director of Educational Programs).
If you want to audition, you need to prepare a pop/rock song or upbeat musical theater piece of approximately 32 bars (no more than one verse and chorus) that best demonstrates your vocal range. Bring sheet music, in your key, in a binder or single sheets taped together that contain full piano accompaniment, not just chord symbols. An accompanist will be provided. Students may not perform a cappella or to an audio recording.
Everyone will be asked to dance. Students will be taught a dance combination, which will then be performed in small groups. Evaluation will be based on skill, potential and the ability to learn the routine. Please wear or bring suitable footwear for your dance audition.
Call back auditions will be Sunday, February 10 at 8 p.m. The Paper Mill Playhouse is located at 22 Brookside Drive in Millburn.
