The Verona-Glen Ridge hockey team lost its opener to Roxbury High School 3-1 on Sunday, December 2 at the Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown. Glen Ridge senior Jake Biondi was stellar between the pipes, stopping 37 shots.

VGR opened the scoring 12 and a half minutes into the second period when Glen Ridge senior Matt Martell, one of the team’s co-captains, tucked in a rebound. The goal was assisted by Verona senior Bobby Maguire and Glen Ridge senior Michael Lloyd, also both co-captains.

Matt Horn of Roxbury answered back with a score in the second period. The third period belonged to Roxbury, with scores by Anthony Zaragoza and John Lloyd.

The VGR defense, led by senior co-captain Ryan Flood, did a great job clearing the puck during the penalties. VGR takes on Montclair Kimberley Academy at the Clary Anderson Arena on Wednesday, December 5, at 7:30 p.m.
