Football on the lower field in the 1970s

Did you play football for Verona High School on the lower field back in the day? Frank Ferrari, quarterback of the 1973 Hillbillies, is looking to honor players from the lower field’s early days at this week’s Thanksgiving Day game against Caldwell. Ferrari, the father of two players on the 2012 squad, plans to have the Hillbilly veterans introduced at halftime.

From 1956, when Verona High School opened at its current location, through the late 1970s, the lower field was the home field for VHS. It has become the home field again because of problems that have developed beneath the surface of Thomas J. Sellitto Field, the venue closest to the high school.

If you want to join the crowd at halftime, contact Ferrari by email or call 973-615-9464.
