Rev. Erik Spencer is the pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Verona. He sent this email out to his congregation today.

Hi Folks,

I hope all is well with you and that you are enduring the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy as comfortably as can be expected. I know many of you are without power (and probably can’t read this), that some of you need gasoline, and that some of you have lost houses at the shore. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, as well as our practical acts of hospitality and kindness.

We still do not have power at church. We will, however, have worship on Sunday even without power for those who wish to gather in prayer and fellowship. I will let you know as soon as possible when the power does eventually come on.

My text for this storm has been Psalm 46.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved;
God will help it when the morning dawns.
