Shabazz Profiled By Sports Illustrated

We see our athletic opponents on the sports fields, but, for the most part, not much beyond that.

Sports Illustrated is running a series called Underdogs, on teams that face challenges, and, on October 9, it profiled Malcolm X. Shabazz High School. You might remember that Shabazz narrowly lost to Verona in the closing seconds of the game on September 22. Shabazz is, according to SI, the kind of place where the quarterback, Juwan Jackson, has had to dodge bullets on his way home from school and where the coach, Darnell Grant, has to drive players home so they get there safely and recruit his mother to make them a solid pre-game dinner.
