The Verona girls’ volleyball team improved their record to 7-5 as they swept the Bloomfield Tech Spartans 25-22, 25-12 yesterday at VHS. Senior Amanda Langan and junior Jessica Parsons combined for seven kills.

In boys soccer, Troy Carrington scored two goals and Mike King had six saves in goal but the Hillbillies couldn’t overcome the four first half goals put on the board by the Caldwell Chiefs. Things settled down in the second half as the traveling Hillbillies defense held Caldwell to just one goal but they just couldn’t overcome that early deficit. The Hillbillies’ record fell to 3-5.

The girl’s tennis team swept Caldwell High School in straight sets across the board. Jackie Noyes defeated Paige Mitstifer 6-3, 6-1. Ciarra Davison topped Alyssa Melchione 6-0, 6-4 and Allie Vaccaro won 6-4, 6-0. The doubles team of Caroline Chivily/Briana Tedesco won 6-2, 6-4 and Angelica Bryan/ Nell Karpinski won 6-4, 6-2. The tennis team’s record stands at 5-6.

Today in Hillbilly Country the girls’ soccer team travels to Nutley High School to take on the Raiders. The volleyball team plays at home against the Bloomfield Bengals and the Cross Country team travels to Branch Brook Park. The girl’s squad takes on Christ the King Prep, Irvington and Science and the boys go up against East Orange Campus and Weequahic.
