The girls tennis team got back on the winning track with a sweep of the Nutley Raiders yesterday in Verona. Senior Jackie Noyes, playing first singles, defeated Monica Bobila 6-2, 6-0. Ciarra Davison won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 and Allie Vaccaro won 6-1, 6-1. In double matches, the team of Caroline Chivily and Briana Tedesco won 6-3, 6-0 and that of Angelica Bryan and Skye Reeves took home a win. The victory put the tennis team at 4-5 on the season.
The volleyball team dropped two close matches 25-19 and 25-23 to Columbia High School yesterday in Verona. Their record stands at 4-5.
The girls soccer team handed Bernards High School their first loss of the season with a 2-0 win yesterday in Bernardsville. Senior Laura Hart and sophomore Claire Fitzpatrick put the Hillbillies on the board, and Diana Flores had seven saves guarding the Verona net. With the win, the girl’s record moved to 4-2.
In boys soccer, Michael King had five saves in goal but his valiant effort wasn’t enough to stop Columbia High School’s second half offensive outburst: Their three goals propelled Columbia to a 4-1 win over the Hillbillies.
Verona teams won’t be back in action until Thursday. On Septembert 27, the boys soccer team is home against Science Park and girls tennis is home against West Essex. Volleyball is away at Newark Academy. All 4 p.m. starts. The cross country teams will be competing in Branch Brook Park starting at 4:45 p.m.
