Mr. John D. Ryan, 87, died on September 20, 2012 in Columbus Hospital. A funeral mass will be offered in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Verona on Tuesday, September 25 at 10 a.m. Visiting in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Born in Newark, Mr. Ryan lived in Verona prior to moving to West Orange in 1961.
He served in the Army with the combat engineers in Germany and France during World War II. Mr. Ryan worked in the Post Office while earning his degree in accounting from Seton Hall University and then worked as an auditor for the IRS for 30 years, retiring in 1989.
He was the husband of the late Rosalind Riker Ryan, the father of William H. Ryan, Jacquelyn Ryan Novak and Jennifer M. Ryan, M.D. He is also the grandfather of William A. Ryan, Lisa M. Ryan, Joseph A. Novak and the brother of the late Joseph and James.
He will be remembered for his love and loyalty to his family and his wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed golf, crossword puzzles and finance. In lieu of flowers, donations to the West Orange First Aid Squad, 25 Mount Pleasant Place, West Orange NJ 07052 would be appreciated.
