Arthur G. Singewald, 85

Mr. Arthur G. Singewald, 85, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2012 at his home in Verona. Memorial services will be held in the First Congregational Church of Verona, 19 Church Street, on Monday, September 10 at 6 p.m. Interment will be in the Brig. General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown, N.J. on Tuesday, September 11 at 2 p.m.

Born in Newark, NJ on August 24, 1926, Mr. Singewald moved to Verona at age four from Bloomfield. He graduated from Verona High School in 1945 and Pace College in 1950 with a degree in business & accounting.

Mr. Singewald served in the U.S. Army as a Technical Sergeant from November 1944 until August 1946. He was very proud that he served in the Army during World War II and would look forward to telling his children and grandchildren about his experiences overseas.

He worked as an accountant/bookkeeper for service companies including Home Insurance Co., Elrob Manufacturing on Grove Avenue in Verona, Dale & Rankin in East Hanover and Ingersoll Rand in East Hanover.

Mr. Singewald enjoyed reading and walking. He could always be seen walking in Verona Park and around town. He will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. He also enjoyed the ocean and his family recalls many happy memories of summer vacations on Ortley Beach. After his children were grown, Arthur and his wife Gladys enjoyed summer vacations in Wildwood Crest.

Mr. Singewald is the husband of 58 years (married September 5, 1953) of Gladys M. Singewald, the father of Carol Serafin (and her husband, Scott), David Singewald (and his wife, Patricia), and James Singewald (and his wife, Anita). He is also survived by his grandchildren, April and Carly Serafin, Jessica and Kayla Singewald and Ashley and James Singewald. He was predeceased by his brother Robert.

In lieu of flowers, donations to  Atlantic Health Hospice or the Verona Rescue Squad would be appreciated.
