CBS Sports writer Alex Raskin has taken a look at Dan DePalma in training camp and apparently likes what he sees.
In a blog post on Monday, Raskin acknowledged the obvious, which is that the Verona native is up against a lot of competition to make the Giants’ roster as a wide receiver: Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz, Rueben Randle and Jerrel Jernigan, just to name a few. “DePalma knows the depth chart is stacked against him,” Raskin writes. “If he’s going to make the team, he has to be more of a football player than just a wide receiver.”
Raskin says DePalma is trying to rise above all that by offering to play defensive back, and notes that he has a “head start” on versatility because he played cornerback for a time in college. “It’s not anything out of the realm of possibilities for me,” DePalma told Raskin.”I could do it. Just teach it to me and put me out there and I’ll do it to the best of my abilities.”
