Veronica Finnegan, Long-Time Resident

Mrs. Veronica Theresa (nee Hanley) Finnegan died on July 25, 2012 in Chatham. A funeral mass will be offered in St. Aloysius Church, Caldwell, on Saturday, July 28 at 10 a.m. Visiting in the Prout Funderal Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Born in Jersey City on January 25, 1920 to Thomas and Anna Hanley, she was a 1935 graduate of St. Aedan’s grammar school and a 1939 graduate of Lincoln High School. At a local dance she met her true love, Peter Finnegan, who she married on November 28, 1943. Peter and Veronica shared 61 wonderful years residing in Verona and Caldwell and spending their summers in Lavallette. In the 1970s she worked at JJ Newberry of Caldwell.

Veronica was preceded in death by her husband Peter Finnegan and her eldest son, Peter M. Finnegan. She is survived by her sister Margaret Knox and her children Patrick, Kathleen Staats, Joseph, Mary Brogan, Robert, John, Raymond, James and Veronica Bordi, her 38 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

With her boundless love, unwavering faith and gentle wisdom she has been, and shall continue to be, an inspiration to the many lives she has touched.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Special Olympics of New Jersey would be appreciated.
