Work To Resume On E., W. Lincoln

Several tree stumps left by the unfinished Jenicar work have sprouted, often obscuring lines of sight on the streets.

The Verona Town Council voted on Monday night, July 16, to award the reconstruction of East and West Lincoln Streets to a new company.

The $350,00 project was initially awarded to Jenicar Building Contractors last October. But work stopped abruptly last around Thanksgiving as a result of what Verona Township Manager Joe Martin called a “family disagreement” within Jenicar.

Since Jenicar defaulted on the project, Verona has been trying to collect on the performance bond that was posted for it and restart work. Jenicar had completed the underground work prior to its default,  but the Forest district streets were left with a jumble of broken pavement, broken paving and nearly a dozen tree stumps, which didn’t do much for curb appeal.

The bonding issue has finally been cleared and the work has now been awarded to Midwest Construction of Warren, N.J. Jim Helb, Verona’s engineer, told the council that there would be no additional cost to the town as a result of the stoppage. Midwest should begin work on the street repairs, curbing and driveway aprons soon.
