MyVeronaNJ.com would never be crazy enough to take on Anthony Fasano on the football field. But bocce, that’s another story.

Tomorrow–Saturday, July 14–we’re going to be sponsoring one of the teams competing in the Anthony Fasano Bocce Bash, which will be held in our very own Verona Park. The foundation created by the Miami Dolphins tight end and Verona native Anthony Fasano has donated the construction of four permanent bocce courts in the park, which will be dedicated tomorrow. (The Anthony Fasano Foundation supports programs for children with autism, veterans and families facing hunger and poverty.)

We don’t know who’s going to be on Team Fasano, or who will be joining Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo Jr. on Team Essex County. But we’re sure that our team, which is co-sponsored by the Italian specialty foods store Mia Famiglia, will be the one to beat: Our capo is Mia Famiglia owner Manny Licitra, and his teammates are Drew Gabbe, Sean Kirby and Malcolm McConacchie, all from Verona.

Come out to Verona Park tomorrow and cheer us on. The fun starts at 11 a.m. The bocce courts are just past the bandstand as you head to the back part of the lake.
