From Saturday, July 14 to Saturday, July 28, there’s going to be a special butterfly exhibit at the Essex County Environmental Center in Roseland. The Butterfly Tent Safari is an interactive display that lets visitors observe hundreds of butterflies while walking through a tent.
The tent will be open Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Mondays to Fridays from noon to 3 p.m.; it is closed on Sundays. The cost to go through the tent is $2 per person.
The Environmental Center is also offering butterfly-themed family programs. They cost $6 per child and $8 per adult, and you will need to register in advance. On Saturday, July 14h at 10 a.m. or noon, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” will be read and students will participate in an arts and crafts session. On Saturday, July 21 at the same time the session will be “Buzz into Action with Insect Education” for children ages 5 years and up. On Saturday, July 28, from noon to 1:30 p.m., there will be a butterfly gardening workshop for adults and children ages 8 years and older.
