On June 3, Cole Smith, a sixth grader at H.B. Whitehorne Middle School, won first place in the “Celebrate New Jersey”  poster contest. Celebrate New Jersey is a private non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the state.

This year’s poster entries showcased a variety of points of interest from Sussex County to Cape May, and subjects from science and recreation to historic and memorial sites. Smith’s winning poster was of Diablo, a mountain biking destination in Sussex County that was recently closed.

First place entries received a $250 gift card, second place a $100 gift card and third place a $50 gift card.
