John M. Dowd of Verona recently helped co-chair the annual gala at the Montclair Art Museum. The May 12 event, “Hidden Treasures-A Gentlemen’s Gala”, honored the involvement of the co-chair committee, which is made up entirely of men. Adrian Shelby, MAM’s chair of external affairs and longtime Museum supporter, served as honorary chairwoman. The event honored the Leir Charitable Foundations, which have gifted the museum with Leir Hall and funded the “Cezanne and American Modernism” exhibition.
The night recognized three MAM exhibitions, “Look Now: Modern and Contemporary Art from Private Collections”, “New Media: New Forms”, and “Patterns, Systems, Structures: Abstraction in American Art”. Many of the pieces in these came from private collections and were being shown for the first time at MAM.

The Montclair Art Museum is located at 3 South Mountain Avenue. It is open Wednesdays through Sundays, from noon to 5 p.m., and closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and major holidays. Museum admission is $12 for non-member adults, $10 for senior citizens and students with I.D., and free for members and children under 12.
