Mrs. Evelyn Lessinger, 99, died on Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Daughters of Israel in West Orange. Graveside services will be held in the King Solomon Cemetery, Clifton, on Monday, May 14 at 1 p.m.

Born in New York City, Mrs. Lessinger lived in Waterbury, Conn., North Arlington and Verona prior to moving to West Orange.

She was a member of the Women’s League of Congregation Beth Ahm of West Essex and was named “Woman of the Year” in 2002. She was also a past president and life member of Hadassah, a member of the National Council of Jewish Women and was the first female crossing guard in Verona, serving at the corner of Forest Avenue and Morningside Road for many years.

She is the wife of the late Alex, the mother of Lois Osias and the late Gabriel and the grandmother of David (and his wife Jana) and Michael Osias.
Memorial donations to the Rabbi Discretionary Fund of Congregation Beth Ahm would be appreciated.
