The Verona High School Music Department is closing out the year with a bang. The concert band’s Spring Concert is tonight, Thursday, May 10, at 7:30 p.m. at VHS. Chamber Music Night is next Tuesday, May 22, at 7:30 p.m. All music students and color guard are then traveling to Ohio where they will perform at different venues. The highlight of the trip is Verona Jazz and Beyond playing at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The concerts come on top of a strong year for the music program. On Sunday, May 6, the concert band performed at the New Jersey State Gala at Kean University. Only the top bands in the state were invited to participate. VHS earned this prestigious honor by receiving a Gold Rating and “Best Brass” award during the State Concert Band season.
Verona was the only all–inclusive band to be invited to the gala. The VHS concert band is comprised of every member of the instrumental program with students from grades 9 to 12. All of the other schools are select groups that are arranged through auditions, and these schools have student populations of between 1,000 to 3,000 students, compared to 575 at Verona.
The Verona High School Music Program is under the direction of Erik Lynch, Max Morden, Amanda Hamilton and Jane Szybist. Achieving greatness through their hard work and dedication.
