The eighth annual family bike ride or hike at the Hilltop Reservation is coming up. The Hilltop Conservancy has scheduled this year’s event for Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The route is about 1.5 miles long on pavement and gravel roadways. Families with small children should allow about 1 hour for a leisurely ride and exploring. Bikes with training wheels are welcome and you can start riding any time after 9:45 a.m. The Conservancy says you don’t need to bring money: The ride, beautiful scenery and memories are free. Do bring helmets, a camera and perhaps some drinks and snacks for your children.

To get to the starting point, park in the lot behind the sports field on Mountain Avenue in North Caldwell, which is the Courter Lane entrance to the Hilltop. The route is clearly marked from there.

If you can’t make the ride but you want to visit the Hilltop, use this detailed map of the reservation.
