Verona LIVE will host a Wine and Cheese Café, a social evening for active adults at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 3. The free event will take place at the Verona Community Center, 880 Bloomfield Avenue. The evening will include fun activities and live music provided by Hospitality, a group of local musicians.
The program is being planned by the Roadmap to Retirement Committee and is one in a series of ongoing programs for those who are newly retired or considering retirement. The committee is interested in helping active adults find ways to use their lifelong skills and connect to others who share their common interests and make new friends.
Verona LIVE came to Verona in 2010 with the goal of assisting town residents age 60+ remain in the community. Over the past two years, Verona LIVE has instituted a number of community programs including, Roadmap to Retirement, Tip Top Tuesdays, programs for caregivers, support groups for caregivers, home repair assistance, employment counseling, social work services, a walking club, and a card and game club at the Verona Community Center.
The program was launched by a federal grant from the Administration on Aging and is funded in part by the Partners for Health Foundation and the United Way of Northern New Jersey. United Jewish Communities of MetroWest NJ, the grant recipient, has partnered with Jewish Family Service of MetroWest, Jewish Vocational Service of MetroWest NJ, the Township of Verona, communal agencies, and area houses of worship to coordinate and provide services.
