Tennis Wins Again As Baseball, Softball Fall

Alejandro Diaz topped Chris Martin 6-3, 6-0 in second singles.

The Verona baseball got touched up for eight runs by the Caldwell Chiefs through three innings on their way to their first loss of the season, 10-3. Verona got on the board after Luke Sniatkowski got his second hit of the game, a double to right center and was knocked home by sophomore PJ Lombardi. It was Lombardi’s first varsity hit. Captain Tim Kiernan hit a double in the effort.

The girl’s softball team fell to the Caldwell Chiefs 11-3 yesterday in Verona. Ellen DiDia got a hit and an RBI. Lauren Hart, Caroline Chivily and Remy Sullivan all scored for the Hillbillies.

The Verona tennis team moved their record to 4-0 with a 3-2 win over the Knights of West Essex High School. Matt Tuorto won his first singles match over David Shields 6-3, 6-0. Alejandro Diaz topped Chris Martin 6-3, 6-0 in second singles. The second doubles team of Jake Miller/Steven McMickle defeated Joe Giuffre/Chris Mei.

The boys’ lacrosse match against Union City was scratched after the opponents failed to show. In Tuesday action, the golf team takes on Newark East Side and West Side at the Montclair Golf Club. Baseball travels to Newark Academy. The girls’ lacrosse team takes on Millburn at Centennial Field and softball has a home game against Hasbrouck Heights. Both of those home games start at 4 p.m.
