The 7th Annual Teen Arts Jam at Caldwell College awarded Verona High School senior Michael Bartell first place for his self-portrait entitled Envision. Bartell is a member of the VHS chapter of the National Art Honor Society and is a third-year graphic design student in Helene McKelvey-McLaughlin’s class. The award ceremony will be held on Wednesday evening, February 29, at Caldwell College’s Visceglia Gallery beginning at 6 p.m.
Bartell was one of 20 VHS students who submitted works to the competition; 18 area high schools also sent in student art. This year’s jurors were Liz Seaton and Tony Cuneo from the faculty of the Yard School of Art at the Montclair Art Museum. Prizes include art supplies certificates from Jerry’s Art Outlet and six Caldwell College scholarship awards of $1,000 if the student chooses to attend Caldwell.
Carly Maestas of the VHS class of 2011 won the Teen Arts Jam last year.
