Boys Hoops Win, Girls In Close Defeat

The Hillbillies boys basketball team jumped out to an early first-quarter lead over Golda Och Academy and never looked back on the way to their way to a 67-42 win and their 17th victory of the season. The Maroon and White took a 28-18 lead into the locker room at halftime, but that didn’t slow them down: They came out firing up 39 second-half points and shutting out Golda Och 17-0 in the final quarter.

Seniors led the way for Verona, with Brian Farrell leading all scorers with 17 points. Packy Malanga had nine points, Anthony Huber scored eight and Matt Tuorto added six points. Freshman Patrick Cummings chipped in with two points.

The Verona girls basketball team suffered a close 46-40 defeat at the hands of the Orange Tornadoes yesterday in Verona. The ‘billies were leading 21-19 at the half but were outscored 27-19 in the second half sending them to their 14th loss of the season. Amanda Langan had 14 points for Verona and Emily Aaron scored 12. Kate Percevault netted 6 in the effort.
