In olden times, today would have been the last big day of eating before the fasting season of Lent.  It’s Mardi Gras–Fat Tuesday–and as you might expect, it’s celebrated in a big way at Verona-based Mardi Gras Fine Foods.

Owner Maria Carrozza has sent us that tempting picture of a traditional King Cake. Today’s menu also includes Louisiana specialties like Jambalaya, chicken Gumbo, crawfish etouffe, Muffalatta sandwiches and shrimp and vegetarian PoBoys, shrimp Creole with saffron rice and, of course, red beans and rice.

As the folks in New Orleans say, Laissez les bon temps rouler!
