Obituaries: Robert E. Mulcahy

Mr. Robert E. Mulcahy, 79, died on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 in West Orange. Private services were held.

Born in Cambridge, Mass., Mr. Mulcahy moved to Verona in 1953. He graduated magna cum laude from Lowell Textile Institute with a BS in textile engineering in 1953 and immediately joined Allied Chemical Corporation (now Honeywell International) in Morristown, N.J. as a development engineer.

Mr. Mulcahy rose through the sales and marketing organizations and was named president of the Fabricated Products Division in 1969, and then became president of the Fibers Division in 1971. He became a group vice president of the Automotive, Fibers and Industrial Chemicals divisions in 1974 and was elected to serve on the board of directors and executive committee in 1975.

Mr. Mulcahy was appointed president and chief operating officer of Allied Chemical Corporation in 1975 at the age of 43.

Upon his retirement from Allied Chemical, Mr. Mulcahy continued to provide management consulting services and serve on the boards of several business and professional organizations. He enjoyed spending his retirement in his homes in Verona and Manchester, Vt.

Mr. Mulcahy is the husband of 58 years to Ethel Walworth Mulcahy, and the father of Linda Mulcahy, Steven Mulcahy, Susan Mulcahy McCarthy and the late Scott Mulcahy. He is also survived by his sons-in-law, Mark Johnson and William McCarthy, daughters-in-law, Cynthia D’Elia Mulcahy and Leslie Kersting Mulcahy, his grandchildren, Ellen & Katherine Johnson; Rob, Ryan & Kevin Mulcahy; Erin, Annie & David Mulcahy; Hannah & Connor McCarthy and his siblings George Mulcahy and Donna Keating.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Verona Rescue Squad, 12 Church Street, Verona NJ 07044 would be appreciated.
