The Hillbillies girls team played a tough game against the Ridgers of Glen Ridge High School on Thursday but came up just short in the fourth quarter, falling 37-32.
Verona was leading 15-14 at halftime but Glen Ridge knotted the score at 27 after three periods of play. Led by Danielle Lisovicz’s game-high 14 points, the Ridgers were able to outscore Verona 10-5 in the fourth to secure the victory.
Sophomore Julie Rosenberg led all Hillbillies in scoring for the first time this season by netting 11 points with two three-pointers. Sophomore Remy Sullivan scored three
in the effort. Verona’s record fell to 4-13. They play the Orange Tornados Tuesday at home, with a 4 p.m. start.

Also on Thursday, the Hillbillies boys basketball team fell to the Knights of West Essex High School 51-48. Verona maintained a five-point lead at halftime 30-25 but let things slip away when they were outscored 13-5 in the third quarter. Seniors Anthony Huber and Brian Farrell combined for 32 points. Alex Kaslander had four three-pointers, finishing with 14 points.
This was the 3rd consecutive loss for the 16-8 Hillbilly boys. They travel down Lakeside Avenue on Tuesday to take on Golda Och Academy, with a 4 p.m. start.
