Wow. Newsday‘s Tom Rock is putting a lot on the shoulders of Dan DePalma. Rock says, in a story published Friday evening, that the former Verona High School football player “may wind up being one of the Giants’ most important players as they prepare to face the Patriots in Indianapolis next Sunday.”
Rock seems to be basing his assertion on the fact that, as a member of the Giants’ practice squad, DePalma’s assignment will be to play in the warm-ups to the Super Bowl exactly like Wes Welker, the lead wide receiver for the Patriots. The better DePalma does that, the better the Giants’ chances of winning.
We’d love to tell you more about what Rock thinks, but Newsday put the story behind its pay wall and there’s no option to read just one story. If any of you are a Newsday subscriber, please let us know what else he says…
UPDATE: One of our sharp-eyed readers found a way to access the story through the Twitter feed of Bob Glauber, the guy who actually wrote it. Why it comes up on Tom Rock’s page on the Newsday site is anybody’s guess. DePalma comes off as a very smart guy in the interview.
