Both Verona High School basketball teams took on Cedar Grove High School on Tuesday, and both came away victorious.
The Verona girls basketball team picked up their third win of the season by defeating Cedar Grove in a hard-fought 30-28 victory. Caroline Mols led the team in scoring with eight points. She also was credited with 10 rebounds, as was junior Amanda Langan. Julie Rosenberg contributed seven points to the effort and Amanda Cummings had six. The girls are now 3-8-0 on the season. The girls face Bloomfield at home next Tuesday.
Playing at home, the Hillbilly boys defeated their rival 33-17. In a game where Cedar Grove never broke double digits in scoring in any quarter and the Hillbillies only did it twice, the home team picked up its 10th win of the season. Anthony Huber and Brian Farrell combined for 20 points and 17 rebounds. Next game for the Maroon and White will
be the opening round of the Essex County Tournament. The Hillbillies are the 20th seed and go up against the 25th seed Buccaneers of Belleville High School Thursday at home.
