There was some solid team work on the ice last night as the Verona-Glen Ridge Hockey team defeated West Orange 5-3.
Verona freshman Jake Paganelli scored first, with an assist from Matt Lander and Pat Sullivan. In a pattern that would repeat several times during the evening, West Orange quickly answered back: Alec Hill evened the score at 1-1. But Paganelli took the lead away just as fast, with help from Lander and Dylan DeCandia.
The first two goals of the second period belonged to West Orange, as Jonathan Miller and Liam Trampota scored. Then Verona re-scrambled the Lander-Paganelli-DeCandia attack and Lander scored, tieing the game 3-3.
The third period was all VGR, though. Chris Lapone hit the net first with an assist from Bobby Maguire, then Lapone assisted the evening’s final goal, a Lander slapshot. VGR takes on Millburn tonight at Codey at 7:45 p.m.
