Senior Athlete Of The Week: Kyle Rosenberg

In sports-mad Verona, it can sometimes seem as if children start their athletic careers at birth. We’ve got youth programs in baseball, basketball, football, hockey, lacrosse, soccer, and cheering, and some kids do stay with a sport all the way through their graduation from high school.

But not everyone does, and there are more sports than you might think that welcome in new athletes, even when they are already in Verona High School and even when they are in their senior year at VHS. Just ask Kyle Rosenberg.

Rosenberg joined the Hillbilly wrestling squad for the first time this year and just pulled off his first win, a 5-3 decision over his East Orange opponent. It seemed only fitting, then, that Kyle Rosenberg should be this week’s Verona Sports Boosters Senior Athlete of the Week.

Wrestling Coach Don Morgenroth praises Rosenberg, who is wrestling at 182 pounds, for his effort. “He works his tail off and is a very coach,” says Morgenroth. “As a senior, I do believe that some of his younger teammates admire his work ethic and respect him.”

During the 2011-2012 school year, the Verona Sports Boosters will be recognizing a different senior athlete at Verona High School every week. The Boosters support male and female athletes in all VHS sports through a variety of fundraisers and recognition events.
