Obituaries: Bernice Tode

Mrs. Bernice (nee Feldman) Tode, 94, died on January 4, 2012. Interment services will be in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Born in Newark, Mrs. Tode moved at an early age to East Orange where she attended Franklin Grammar School and graduated valedictorian of her 1934 Class at East Orange High School. In 1939, upon her marriage to Robert B. Tode (who died in 1993) she moved to a newly built home in Verona where she resided ever since.

Mrs. Tode was active in Verona, having served as a two term vice president of the Verona Board of Education from 1957 to 1963. She was a long time member and served as an officer of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Verona Rescue Squad and the Verona Fire Department.

An accountant, Mrs. Tode worked for more that 40 years in various Wall Street brokerage houses, and was a specialist in internal auditing, having completed New York Stock Exchange Institute courses.

The Todes lived 25 winters in St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where she was an active worker for the benefit of the mentally ill.

She is the mother of Thomas R. Tode, the sister of Blanche Green and the late Seymour Feldman.
