In a rematch of last week’s West Essex Holiday Tournament win over Caldwell, the Hillbillies boys basketball team fell in a close contest 49-45 at Verona High School on Tuesday.
Verona went into the locker room at the half scoring only 14 points and down by seven, 21-14. Verona’s offensive showed some spark in the second half by putting up 21 points but were never able to take the lead. The difference this time was Caldwell senior Dave Levinsky. Last week Verona held the 1,000 point scorer to only two points, but yesterday Levinsky broke out with 16.
Sophomore Alex Kaslander led Verona with 20 points aided by two 3 pointers. Senior Captains Anthony Huber and Packy Malanga combined for 21 points. Huber led with 10 rebounds, Matt Braschi had six and Frank Ferrari pulled down five.
Next up for the 4-2 Hillbillies is a Thursday contest against Newark Arts High School. The game is at home, with a 4 p.m. start.
