Obituaries: Vincent T. McDonough

Mr. Vincent T. McDonough, 87, died on Monday, December 19, 2011 in Glen Ridge. A funeral mass will be offered at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Verona, on Thursday, December 22 at 1 p.m. Visiting hours will be at the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Thursday morning from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Born in New York City, Vince moved to Verona in 1955. He was an electrical engineer at the New York Stock Exchange for 21 years, retiring in 1989. Previously, he worked 15 years for ADT. Mr. McDonough has degrees from Brooklyn Polytech and Columbia University. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific. He served as chairman of the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers of New York.

Locally, Vince served as a Cub Scout den dad, at the time the only father to participate in this capacity. He was a member of the Montclair Society of Engineers, and Dun Workin’, a group for retired gentlemen in Montclair. He also was a member of the Verona Taxpayers League.

Biking and swimming were part of his daily routine, but his favorite sport was skiing the slopes of Stratton Mountain, near his home in Dorset, Vt., which he did until the age of 82. He and his wife, Pat, enjoyed traveling extensively.

He is survived by his wife Patricia, his brother Francis, his daughter Nancy Canavan and her husband David, his son Dr. Thomas McDonough and his wife Alena. He is also survived by his five grandchildren Katie, Brian and Patrick Canavan, Lauren and Jamie McDonough. He was predeceased by his sister, Imelda Davis.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital would be appreciated.
