For years, Calvary Lutheran Church has held, on the days leading up to Christmas, a reenactment of the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. Parishioners take on all the many roles in the nativity story, wearing elaborately made costumes, singing and leading live animals. It is definitely not something you see every day in Verona.
This year, the Live Nativity will be held on Sunday, December 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church, which is located on South Prospect Street just off Bloomfield Avenue. The church says that everyone is invited to witness the event, which plays an important role in Calvary’s outreach to the community.
Calvary’s Christmas services begin with a children’s program on December 18 at 10:45 a.m. On Christmas Eve, December 24, there will be a contemporary service at 5 p.m. and a traditional service at 7:30 p.m. On Christmas Day, the service will be at 10:45 a.m.
