The Verona Historical Society will be honoring past president Gerald Caprio tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Center Ballroom at the Society’s holiday get-together. Caprio’s dedication to the preservation of local history was a driving force behind both the Verona Historical Society and the League of West Essex Historical Societies for many years. All who have worked with Caprio in his varied civic roles are welcome to join us.
In the spirit of the season there will also be a holiday program presented by Chris Tamburro exploring how Christmas was celebrated in the past in Verona and local areas. We will learn about the artist who created the first depictions of Santa Claus and how that contrasted with the images that made this New Jersey resident famous as a political commentator. Audience participation will be encouraged to share memories of holiday seasons from years past. Holiday refreshments will be served.
Please note that the Society will be collecting food and gently worn articles of clothing for the Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair.
