William F. “Bucky” Hatchett, who passed away last month at age 84, received many awards and accolades during his lifetime. He was inducted into the Verona High School Hall of Fame, Essex County Chapter National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. He was also the only man in the history of Rutgers University to be inducted into two sports halls of fame there, for football and basketball.

Next month the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association will add its own honor to the list. The NJSIAA will posthumously induct Hatchett into its Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Edison on Monday, December 5. The event will be held at the Pines Manor on Route 27 in Edison beginning at 11:30 a.m. Verona Board of Education member Joe Bellino announced the honor at the BOE meeting on Tuesday night and indicated that several members of Hatchett’s family would be attending, as would members of the BOE. If you would like to join them, the luncheon is $55 a person and you can download the registration form here.
