Verona has just joined the many other New Jersey towns calling for Halloween celebrations to be postponed because of the freak October snow storm.
At 1:13 p.m., the Verona Police Department, which has been emphasizing the dangerous conditions around town since the storm started on Saturday, issued this statement by text message: “Verona Police asks you not to trick or treat today. We will have extra patrols on Friday for trick or treaters.”
Among our neighboring towns Montclair, Bloomfield, Glen Ridge, Cedar Grove andHallo Nutley have all moved Halloween celebrations to Friday. If you absolutely, positively need to trick-or-treat today, your best bet is Willowbrook Mall. There’s a kid’s Halloween Festival at the Bloomingdale end of the mall from 3 to 7 p.m.
Oh, by the way, that bit of gallows humor above is in front of a house on Beach Road that was clobbered by an oak tree. The tree cracked the roof and a lower branch went through the front window. Looks like a total loss.
I am very pleased with this VERY wise decision!
