Joe Pami of the Verona High School football team has been selected as the Verona Sports Boosters Senior Athlete of the Week. The linebacker was key to the Hillbillies’ 35-7 victory over the Montclair Immaculate Lions this past Saturday. Pami had eight solo tackles, one QB sack and two tackles for loss on the day. He also made several key blocks throughout the game that set up long gains and touchdowns.
It wasn’t the first time that Pami’s drive reverberated with his team. He trains every day in the VHS weight room, and he makes sure that his fellow team mates stay on track there too. Pami’s dedication to training may have been what landed him on the varsity team as a freshman, becoming part of the state championship team that got to play a thrilling game in Giants stadium. It also likely was a key factor in his swift recovery from an avulsion fracture of the hip at the end of last season. Pami is exploring the possibility of playing football in college next fall.
During the 2011-2012 school year, the Verona Sports Boosters will be recognizing a different senior athlete at Verona High School every week. The Boosters support male and female athletes in all VHS sports through a variety of fundraisers and recognition events.
