Obituaries: Thomas F. Meehan

Mr. Thomas F. “Baldy” Meehan, 78, died on Monday, October 17, 2011 in Cedar Grove. A funeral mass will be offered in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Verona, on Thursday, October 20, at 9 a.m. Visiting in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Wednesday 4 to 8 p.m.

Born in Orange, Mr. Meehan grew up in East Orange and lived in Montclair for 33 years prior to moving to Verona in 1996.

Mr. Meehan served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. He retired as supervisor of shipping and receiving for Smith Industries in Florham Park in 1995 after 20 years with the company.

Mr. Meehan served as an umpire for the Newark Softball League and was a past officer of the South Orange Elks.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. (nee Dempsey) Meehan, his daughters Leslie Koes and her husband Richard, Kathleen Smith and her husband Charles, his sons Kevin Meehan and his wife Nancy and Sean Meehan and his wife Kimberly. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Melissa, Lindsay, Jillian, Andrew, Tyler, Anna Lee, Kaitlyn, Samantha and Sydney.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 251, Denville NJ 07834 would be appreciated.
